Oscars 2012 – “The Artist” bags top honours!

The 84th Annual Academy Awards have been announced. The top honors were bagged by “The Artist”. The film bagged The Best Picture award, The Best Actor award, The Best Director award. Jean Dujardin won the Best actor award for his magnificent performance in “The Artist” and Meryl Streep, the veteran actress received the Best Actress award for “The Iron Lady”. French newcomer Michel Hazanavicius won the Academy Award for director for “The Artist”. The Award Ceremony was hosted by Billy Crystal. He is an American actor, writer, producer, comedian, and film director.

“The Artist” bagged a total of 5 awards and closest competitor “The Descendants” receiving just one award. “Hugo” also received 5 awards including sound and visual effects. “The Descendants” starring George Clooney was expected to win a bunch of awards at the ceremony, but only managed to win a single award after being nominated in several categories including Best Picture and Best Actor Awards.

Agent Vinod – Saif in Action

Agent-Vinod-First-lookAgent Vinod is an upcoming Spy-Thriller film, starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The movie, written and directed by Sriram Raghavan is expected to do wonders in the box office. The movie is produced by Saif himself along with Dinesh Vijan and the music has been composed by Pritam. Produced at a cost of Rs 60 crores, the film was completed in 19 months. It will be released in 3,500 screens. The movie was shot in 12 countries including Latvia, Riga, Uzbekistan, Morocco, Russia, UK and India. The movie is scheduled to release on March 23, 2012. The buzz surrounding Agent Vinod was quite low until now, but with only a few weeks before its release, the makers have begun promoting it in a big way. The song I’ll do the Talking is ruling the charts, and the recently released ‘Mujra’ song by Kareena Kapoor has also created waves.

Kolkata Knight Riders, looking for a head start this season, have unveiled their new logo and new tagline at Mumbai on Monday. The Baadshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan unveiled the new logo and was at his wittiest best. Co-owners Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta along with the CEO of KKR Venky Mysore were also present at the function. Kolkata Knight Riders one of the most expensive teams in the celebrated IPL (Indian Premier League) has thus far failed to make an impression. They were far behind their reputation in the first three seasons under Saurav Ganguly, but were back in contention in the fourth edition of the IPL in 2011. The newer signings last year with Gautham Gambhir as captain has had an impact. It tends to get better as they have managed to bring back McCullum to their team.

Chennai Rhinos retain title

Chennai Rhinos successfully defended their CCL Championship Trophy in a nail biting finale at Vishakapattannam yesterday. The Rhinos edged the Karnataka Bulldozers in a tight finish, which could have swung either way. The win by a single run made Chennai Rhinos the champions for the second time in as many editions of the Celebrity League. Vikraant was the real star making an unbeaten 95 with the bat and then taking 2 important wickets with the ball as well. Vikraant’s all-round abilities ensured the Trophy remains at Chennai and he was the Man-of-the-Match, well deserved. The Chennai Rhinos batted first and put up a fair total of 161/4 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply the Karnataka Bulldozers could only make 160/7 falling short by 1 run. Dhruv and Karthik hit half centuries.

ekk deewana tha posterGautham Vasudevan Menon is making his way into Bollywood with “Ek Deewana Tha”, the remake of the 2010 Tamil Movie “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya” which was also directed by Gautham Vasudevan Menon. The Tamil movie turned out to be a success at the box office and the movie was also critically acclaimed. The performances of lead artists in “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya” were well appreciated. “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya” had Silambarsan and Trisha in leading roles while the 2012 remake of the movie has Prateik Babbar (son of late actress Smita Patil and actor Raj Babbar) and Amy Jackson (Madrasapattinam fame). The music and background score is composed by AR Rahman. “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya” was a huge success and so was the music. The remake features the same songs which are already chartbusters. The climax of the movie has been changed and will differ from the original.
